About Things of Comfort

John Wildsmith:

You are either in your bed or in your shoes, so it pays to invest in both.

Dressed Up Man

Thom Browne’s interview:

Sometimes it’s embarrassing when you see couples out and the girl has clearly taken so much time over her appearance and the guy just looks bad. And the girls don’t seem to mind! Men get lazy. It’s important for a guy to figure out what works for him and then stick with it. Most men can’t steer themselves when it comes to style. They need a female to guide them. That’s a fact.

You have a fallback plan when you get back because you are educated and employed, it’s not easy to have the same attitude if you don’t.

Quality Leather Shoes

Terry Pratchett, Men at Arms: The Play

The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was  because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles. But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that’d still be keeping his feet dry in ten years’ time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet. This was the Captain Samuel Vimes ‘Boots’ theory of socioeconomic unfairness.

On Footwear

Hiroki Nakamura, Creative Director of Visvim, in the earliest online interview with beinghunted.com

One of life’s daily tools is a pair of shoes. We rely on them everyday, so they should perform comfortably, be made of the nicest and high-tech materials available today and still look great.

So there are two versions of Wildfire in Mayer’s Paradise Valley album. The first inception was the version I posted earlier – the one with Frank Ocean. The little sister was later produced after John listened Frank singing Wildfire.

Watch John telling the tale.

John Mayer Hitting Home With Frank Ocean

Only a nascent trying to harness huge fire
Out on the beach in the darkness starting bonfire
So gorgeous, a man might cry
Burning trees in the basement start a cool fire
Feel my heartbeat racing, baby you’re on fire
So gorgeous, a man might cry

Back in Paris you told me you were suicidal
It’s not a vacation if I lose you to the Eiffel
You’re gorgeous but you can’t fly
A hidden admirer sent me roses white as fire
We took our handfuls it was war, flower fighter

Lovely, lovely tune
